What's the difference between automatic delivery and one-time delivery?
When you heat with oil, you have two options for delivery service. Will-call delivery requires that the customer periodically check the oil level in the tank and call to order when the tank gauge is 3/8 full.
Delivery will be made within 2 business days following receipt of the order. Automatic delivery shifts the burden of monitoring the oil level in the tank to Beaver Petroleum. We do this using a state-of-the-art computer forecasting program that generates delivery dates based on climate rate data. Most people prefer the convenience of automatic delivery.
What can I do to save money?
The best, and most obvious, way to save money when oil prices rise is to burn less fuel. To help our customers, we have compiled this list of Energy Saving Tips. You may also want to explore other options such as installing a programmable thermostat, having an annual tune-up of your heating system and exploring the cost benefit of upgrading your heating system to the new generation of clean burning, high efficiency oil heating equipment.
How much oil is in my tank?
Assuming you have a 275 gallon tank (which most do), when your gauge reads as shown, your tank contains approximately this many gallons:
- 1/8 = 40 gals
- 1/4 = 70 gals
- 3/8 = 100 gals
- 1/2 = 130 gals
- 5/8 = 160 gals
- 3/4 = 200 gals
- 7/8 = 240 gals
- "full" = 265 gals
When should I request an oil delivery?
Will-Call customers should order when the oil tank gauge reads 3/8 full. Automatic delivery customers do not need to call to place an order once they have established an account with Beaver Petroleum.
Energy Saving Tips
- Feel for air leaks around windows, doors and electrical outlets. Repair weather-stripping and caulk leaks. (Don't caulk around storm windows because that can hold in moisture and cause damage to the wood frame).
- Seal up cracks in your home's foundation.
- Replace cracked glass.
- Seal off your attic-circulating fan with polyethylene and tape.
- Make sure you have at least 6" of good thermal insulation in your ceiling.
- Keep your kitchen vents closed when not in use.
- Remove air conditioning window units or cover them well.
- Use storm windows and doors and make sure they fit tightly. If you don't have storm windows, cover the outside glass with polyethylene sheets.
- Keep closet doors closed.
- Dial back a few degrees. You'll save about 3% on your heating bill for every degree that you set back your thermostat full time. (Turn it back 10 degrees when you go to work and again when you go to bed, and you can save about 14% on your heating bill).
In addition, to the above list there are some other simple steps you may consider. Installing a programmable, set-back thermostat is a low cost solution for reducing energy consumption. Be sure to have the annual tune up for your heating system to ensure maximum operating efficiency.
If your budget allows, you may want to consider upgrading your heating equipment. A new flame retention burner generally produces annual energy savings of 15-18% and can pay for itself within 3 years.
Upgrading to a new high efficiency boiler or furnace can create savings of 20-40% with a payback within 4-8 years.
We hope you find these Energy Saving Tips useful as the cold weather moves in. As always, you can order your oil directly on the website.
